Automating lights with Smart Control
Standard smart switches offer app-based remote control, schedules and brightness settings. Kasa smart light switches with built-in motion and ambient light sensors add control based on movement and lighting conditions.
With Smart Control rules, the sensors work together to turn lights on when movement is detected in the dark. The following examples show how this can fit into everyday routines.
Smart Control Rule 1: Gentle lighting for the morning

Movement before you get up can trigger the light to fade on, imitating sunrise to match your circadian rhythm. After you leave, the switch turns the light off following a period without motion.
The ambient light sensor prevents movement—including a cat roaming around—from switching lights on when the room is already bright. If cloudy weather makes the room dark, lighting can still activate. You choose the ambient light threshold.
Smart Control Rule 2: Light the way through a dark hallway

A hallway can use two switches at opposite ends, or a Kasa smart light switch can automate the process. Approaching movement turns the light on, and the motion sensor switches it off once movement is no longer detected.
After you turn the switch off manually, a buffer of several minutes gives you time to leave before motion detection can activate the light again.
